Welcome to the 16th Tacoma Film Festival! We are relieved and happy to return to a fully in-person film festival at The Grand Cinema in the heart of downtown Tacoma. How many ways can we say it? We are grateful to be here after a remarkable year and to welcome people back inside the cinema! Filmmakers from the US and around the world have contributed to the lineup once again, bringing us stories of resilience, fascination, dread, and delight through the best medium we know: the moving image.
This year, as we power through the end(?) of the pandemic, we have taken careful consideration and are requiring proof of vaccination to attend, as well as masking, to provide as much safety as possible for our festival-goers and filmmakers. Please see page X and The Grand Cinema’s website for more details, and we thank our film-going community for the overwhelming support they have shown to us for making this difficult, but necessary decision.
We are also providing online access to many of the films at TFF as we did in 2020 for those who are extra cautious about attending public events.
This year’s festival has 17 feature documentary and fictional films, and over 150 short fictional works by filmmakers from over 20 countries. We are pleased with all of the excellent Pacific Northwest (WA, OR, ID, BC) films this year. We will screen 44 PNW titles, including five features, and short film packages including documentary, fiction, comedy, and late-night films, throughout the festival.
TFF is a nonprofit, community-inspired festival that depends on you for its vitality. We thank every filmmaker, juror, volunteer, and filmgoer for contributing to the festival, and hope you enjoy your experience at TFF in 2021.
